Family Matters Program

The Only Addiction Counseling Course For the Entire Family

The Course Bundle

The Best of Both Worlds

Fast help and powerful long-term results

You don’t have to wait for your loved one to make the change. You can start the process even without them, by changing the family dynamics first. To do that in the best way possible, we offer you the opportunity to combine both courses, which will ensure you have both short-term and long-term support.

You can start with the Fast Track course to get through your current crisis — and then continue with the Step by Step Support Path to successfully build long-term sobriety.

At the end of the day, not only will you change your family for the better, you may avoid the cost of yet   yet another treatment program!.

We understand though that it will take a bigger financial investment on your end, so we decided to create a reduced, bundle price for both courses. So that you can make the right decision based on what you really need!

Course 1 - The Fast Track

This course gives you immediate direction and quick access to resources, as well as the fast and reliable support you need to pull through during times of crisis. It consists of 7 quick and interactive lessons.

  • Lesson 1: Welcome to the course

Choose the information you need to read, whether you’re a parent/caregiver or a partner/loved one. You will be able to personalize the information you get, based on the particular case that applies to you (loved one with SUD in danger, loved one with SUD threatening you etc).

  • Lesson 2: Stages of Severity and Signs that a Loved One is Using

You’ll learn to recognize the different signs that point to a loved one using and understand the various stages and severity of SUD (Substance Use Disorder).

  • Lesson 3: Does my Child Need Treatment: Guidelines for Making Difficult Decisions

You’ll learn the difference between rebellious teenage behavior and signs of addiction. You’ll also go through prep sessions for several difficult scenarios (like a phone call from your kid asking for money, bailing someone out of jail, dealing with missing valuables) and get practical resources.

  • Lesson 4: How to Respond to Life-Threatening Situations

You will go through decision-making exercises and learn how to assess immediate threats and come up with a response plan.

  • Lesson 5: Actions You Can Take When a Loved One is Using

You will have the chance to reflect upon your own actions and get tips on how to get your loved one into treatment.

  • Lesson 6: Develop a Plan of Action

You will get a thorough checklist with all the steps you need to take in order to support sobriety and reduce chaos.

  • Lesson 7: Resources

You will understand your different options for treatment programs, learn how to do safety planning against domestic violence and get all the resources you need.

Course 2 - The Step by Step Support Path

This course gives you immediate direction. It’s about changing the way you think about addiction, start approaching it as a family issue and learn how to create a family environment that maintains long-term recovery. It consists of six thorough lessons (that include videos, PDFs, journaling exercises and recommended reading) which you can take at your own pace

  • Lesson 1: Getting Started

You’ll begin by setting your goals for this course and challenging your assumptions about addiction. You’ll learn how to make the most of the Step by Step Support Path course and the Family Matters community. You’ll also find some recommended reading and download your exercise workbook.

  • Lesson 2: Choosing Life

You’ll focus on understanding your family system and the part you play in various relationship patterns. You’ll be asked to draw a family diagram and then think (and journal) about your own values. You’ll also learn about integrating beliefs with behavior.

  • Lesson 3: A Wide-Angle Lens

You will take the journey towards a spiritual awakening. In this lesson you will become better acquainted with the ideas behind Alcoholics Anonymous and the 12-step program. You’ll also continue to examine relationship patterns within the family (like emotional triangles and how to navigate them) and understand the concept of “family anxiety”. Finally, you will watch some documentaries about addictions and do a moral inventory in your journal.

  • Lesson 4: Shifting Focus

You will review the ways in which you can change some of your behaviors or thinking and journal as you observe your own behaviors. You’ll follow self-reflection guidelines in order to learn how to shift your part in an emotional triangle. You’ll also learn what it means to be a leader in your family — and how to identify the H.A.L.T. conditions that contribute to difficulties in managing emotions. You will also learn how to find a good Al-Anon or Nar-Anon meeting and how to find a good sponsor.

  • Lesson 5: Investing in Sobriety

You'll learn all about emotional cut offs and how to bridge them (by making and receiving amends). You’ll also get guidelines for clear communication, learn how to rebuild trust and make decisions based on principles.

  • Lesson 6: Moving Forward

You will review the ideas that will help you keep moving in the right direction (like the concept of forgiveness as a process). You will also explore mindfulness and breath prayer. This lesson also offers insights on how to find a good sober living house — as well as a therapist that will help you move forward. You will finally get all the resources you need so that you yourself can become a resource for your family.

"Our daughter, following major scoliosis back surgery, continued to use Percocet and eventually began snorting heroin while at college. She admits that it was a matter of time before she would have been injecting as a cost/efficiency measure. Thanks to the program, we recognized the signs and knew what we should do. Our daughter agreed to go to a residential rehab without putting up a fight. That's almost 3 years ago now. The principles Dund in the Family Matters Program helped us get clear and prevented more damage from taking place."
